Let's Talk

Thank you for expressing an interest in Hope Guardians. We are working hard to achieve our goal in helping thousands of young people (between the ages of 18 and 27 and based in the UK and South Africa) with free online 1-to-1 therapy sessions with mental health professionals. We will open up other countries as soon as possible. In the meantime, let us know how we can help or how you'd like to help, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

How did Hope Guardians come into existence?

On 21 February 2021 Benjamin Tuttle read an article in The Guardian. The study, conducted by University College London, supported by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ child & adolescent faculty, among others, focused on UK-based 17-year-olds alone. The statistics were shocking, and these three jumped out:

  • More than 170,000 had self-harmed in just the last 12 months. That’s 1 in every 4 …
  • 52,247 had actually attempted suicide at least once in their lives. And, of course, every single one of those lives counts …
  • 52,247 17-year-olds had lost ALL HOPE – they had gone through chronic depression, then had suicidal thoughts, and finally got as far as acting on it.

And those were the ones who were open enough to share their experiences.

And please remember, those were the numbers for 17-year-olds only.

What about all young people? According to a study on Suicidal Behaviour among 13-26-year-old adolescents from 90 countries, published by BMC Health in August 2020 this number is estimated at 420 million globally. That’s greater than the entire population of the USA

Even if these numbers aren’t perfect (because statistics rarely are), the bottom line is that this is a VERY BIG problem!!!

So Benjamin decided he just had to help fix it…and so he launched Guardians

How is the money being spent?

Any monies donated or raised are spent directly on Hope Guardian’s objectives;

  • Helping adolescents around the world improve their mental health.
  • Escalating awareness amongst the general public of self-harm and other mental health ailments in the 13-26 age group.
  • Reducing the incidence of suicide in this age group.
  • Obtaining support from Government institutions for young people suffering from mental health disorders.

Three trustees have been appointed to ensure the money is spent appropriately and that the charity stick’s to these objectives. If the objectives are not met there are very serious consequences for these trustees, including possible jail time.

Thank you for expressing an interest in Hope Guardians. We are working hard to achieve our goal of thousands of free online 1-to-1 therapy sessions with mental health professionals. In the meantime, let us know how you’d like to help, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!
